Jocelyn Sarah Kirsch, 22, the pretty former Drexel University student, was sentenced 5 years by the U.S. District Judge Eduardo Robreno in prison. Kirsch was also ordered to pay full restitution to her victims. Her accomplice, former boyfriend Edward Anderton, will be sentenced in November.

Jocelyn Kirsch and Edward Anderton, 25, a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, were convicted of stealing as much as $100,000 from up to 50 neighbors using their identities during 2006 to 2007. They splashed the stolen money into the luxurious lifestyle which saw the pair traveling to the Europe and Hawaii, staying five star hotels and eating on fine dines.

Paul Krugman Is 2008 Nobel Economics Prize Winner! Economist Paul Krugman was announced to be the sole winner of this year's Nobel Economics Prize "for his analysis of trade patterns and location of economic activity" today on October 13. 

He will receive his Nobel gold medal and diploma along with 10 million Swedish kronor ($1.42m  at a formal prize ceremony in Stockholm on December 10.

Paul Krugman, 55, is an economics professor at Princeton University and a columnist for The New York Times. His new trade analysis therory determines the effects of free trade and globalisation, as well as the driving forces behind worldwide urbanisation.

Krugman is a fierce critic of the Bush administration's free-market policies. He opposed to the initial wording of US Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson's 700-billion-dollar financial sector bailout plan weeks ago.

In God We Trust is now the new name of Steve Kreuscher. Apparently, Friday the thirteenth was not ominous for Mr. Kreuscher.  The 57-year-old school bus driver and amateur drawing artist from the Chicago suburb of Zion was granted to legally change his name to "In God We Trust" by Lake County Circuit Judge David Hall on Friday, June 13, 2008. "In God" is his first name and "We Trust" last name.

The Illinois artist contributed the name change as an homage to his higher power who aided him through tough times.

"God has brought me through some very hard times. I feel this is a way to honor God." Dailyherald.com quoted Mr. We Trust as saying.

June 16, 2008 when the gay marriage officially becomes legal in California is the day for Phyllis Lyon and Del Martin. On this day, Phyllis, 84, and Del, 87, are legally married as the first and only lesbian couple in San Francisco.

In recognition of their long relationship and their status as pioneers of the gay rights movement, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom will officiate the first and today's only same sex couple wedding ceremony of Phyllis Lyon and Del Martin at 5:01 p.m in his City Hall office before 50 invited guests .

Del Martin was born Dorothy Taliaferro on May 5, 1921, in San Francisco. She was among the first graduates from George Washington High School. Del once studied at the University of California, Berkeley and at San Francisco State College, with the journalism as major. She has a D.A. from the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality. Del was once married for four years to James Martin, whose name she retained after their divorce. With James, she has one daughter named Kendra Mon.

Phyllis Lyon was born November 10, 1924 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She holds a degree in journalism from the University of California, Berkeley. During the 1940s, she worked as a reporter for the Chico Enterprise-Record, and during the 1950s, she worked as part of the editorial staff of two Seattle magazines.

Martin and Lyon met in Seattle in 1950 when they began working for the same magazine. They became lovers in 1952 and entered into a formal partnership in 1953 when they moved to San Francisco together although unable to legally marry.

On February 12, 2004, Martin and Lyon were issued a marriage license by the City and County of San Francisco after mayor Gavin Newsom ordered that marriage licenses be given to same-sex couples who requested them. The license, along with those of several thousand other same-sex couples were voided by the California supreme court on August 12 2004.

Speaking of the incident, Phyllis Lyon said back then, "Del is 83 years old and I am 79. After being together for more than 50 years, it is a terrible blow to have the rights and protections of marriage taken away from us. At our age, we do not have the luxury of time."

Phyllis Lyon and Del Martin who were plaintiffs in the California Supreme Court case that led to the legalization of gay marriage are long time feminist and gay-rights activists. in 1955, Martin and Lyon and six other lesbian women formed the Daughters of Bilitis, a lesbian organization which evolved into the nation's first lesbian advocacy organization in the United States.

Larissa Schuster, pictured above, a biochemist of Clovis, California, was sentenced May 16 to life in jail without parole by Fresno County Superior Court.

The 47-year-old woman was convicted in December of killing Timothy Schuster by knocking him out and stuffing him into a vat of acid - possibly while still alive in 2003. She was accused of committing for financial gain as the couple was in the middle of a fierce divorce battle after nearly 20 years of marriage.

Testifying before the judge, Kristin, Larissa and Timothy  Schuster's adult daughter, said she now felt safer after her mother was to be locked up in the prison.

"I've been living for five years not knowing if I would have to worry for my own safety. In your quest to become a dominating power freak, you became your own demon. You have hurt me for so many years and probably smiled inside, but look who's smiling now." Kristin Schuster said.

Oscar Pistorius, pictured below, South African's double-amputee sprinter, has won an appeal to allow him to compete at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, ruled the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne on May 16.

Oscar Pistorius was originally banned by IAAF to compete at an able-bodied athletes' Olympic event in January, being alleged of two of his prosthetic limbs (Cheetah Flex-Foot) giving an unfair advantage.

After today’s ruling he can be selected for the South African relay team immediately, but will still have to reach the qualifying time in order to compete in the individual event.

Oscar Pistorius had won a gold and bronze medalist at the 2004 Athens Paralympics. He created the 400 metre Paralympic world record of 46.56 seconds.

John Tyler Hammons is a 19-year-old US Mayor.

John Tyler Hammons, a 19-year-old freshman at the University of Oklahoma, was elected as Mayor of his native city Muskogee, Oklahoma, on May 13. During the Tuesday's runoff, John Tyler Hammons won with 70 percent of the vote over former Mayor Hershel Ray McBride.

John Tyler Hammons will be sworn in as mayor of the city of 38,000 population next week. But the elect-up won't make him put a stop on his studies in Political Science and Public Administration while serving the people, Hammons now is considering a transfer to a university closer to Muskogee.

"Being elected does not change my desire to continue my education," he said. "We will schedule our time in an appropriate fashion so that I can be mayor and stay in school."
